Iran has issued a warning that any potential conflict with the United States could extend beyond past confrontations, with Tehran asserting control over its military responses. Iranian army spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia highlighted that a future conflict might surpass previous engagements in duration, emphasizing Iran’s determination to set the terms of its own defense.
The Iranian Defence Minister, Mehrdad Akhlaghi, echoed these sentiments, stating that Iran would deliver a proportionate and decisive response to any attack. He underscored that Iran would not allow external forces to dictate the scale or timing of its defensive measures. Additionally, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps suggested that any conflict with the United States could have widespread regional implications, rather than being confined to a specific geographical area.
Despite these warnings, diplomatic efforts are ongoing to resolve tensions between the United States and Iran. Iranian negotiators are currently engaged in discussions with Qatari mediators in Doha, aiming to reach an agreement to end hostilities. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that consultations with Qatar are ongoing, with negotiations over a proposed two-day initiative still in progress, albeit without a final agreement.
Concerns persist about the potential for renewed hostilities following the U.S. midterm elections on November 3. President Donald Trump has indicated that no new attacks on Iran would occur before the elections, while describing the current negotiations as productive. However, he has not dismissed the possibility of further military action in the future.
