During a visit to Ecuador, Rubio emphasized that the US military would continue to target vessels involved in drug trafficking when necessary, while also seeking to forge agreements for joint operations with nations like Ecuador and Colombia. The announcement follows ongoing US military campaigns against boats suspected of drug trafficking, with the latest strike in the Caribbean Sea resulting in three fatalities. Since the initiative began in September 2025, at least 230 people have reportedly been killed across 69 operations.
