A gastroenterologist has shared a holistic list of seven foods that support the liver by enhancing the entire body’s systems, from the gut to the circulatory system. This approach supports overall vitality.
The holistic plan starts with the gut-liver axis. The expert recommends cranberries, as their polyphenols act as prebiotics for gut bacteria. A “healthier gut is linked to a healthier liver,” forming the foundation of health.
Next, the plan addresses blood flow. Watermelon with lime and beetroot (with its nitrates) are recommended to support nitric oxide production, ensuring the liver is well-nourished.
The plan also includes metabolic support. Raspberries, and the pairing of apples and cinnamon, help regulate blood sugar, insulin sensitivity, and lipid levels. Beetroot also adds its betaine content, which helps the liver process fat.
Finally, the plan targets inflammation and blood vessel health. Pomegranates are rich in anti-inflammatory polyphenols. Strawberries with dark chocolate (70%+) provide flavanols to support blood vessel function and cardiometabolic health.
