“US Opens Door to G20 Discussions as South Africa Pushes Inclusive Agenda”

The United States is rethinking its decision to boycott the G20, President Ramaphosa confirmed. While Trump’s attendance remains uncertain, discussions have resumed. The move comes amid rising global expectations.

Trump previously accused South Africa of abuses against white farmers. Pretoria rejected the claims, calling them inaccurate. Still, the dispute affected early diplomatic interactions ahead of the summit.

Ramaphosa said the US’s change in approach was encouraging. He reiterated that constructive engagement is vital for solving global challenges. Avoiding participation, he noted, weakens international forums.

A leaked US diplomatic note insisting that no G20 communiqué be issued without American involvement drew a harsh response. South African officials said it was unreasonable for a non-attending nation to influence outcomes. Such demands, they argued, undermine unity.

South Africa’s G20 priorities include inclusive development and advancement of the global south. Ramaphosa emphasized the need for cooperation.
