“It’s gonna be great for everybody,” President Donald Trump said of his upcoming meeting with President Xi Jinping, despite a festering dispute over rare earth minerals.
The “big meeting” is set for Thursday in South Korea, during the APEC summit. “I think it’s going to work out very well,” Trump added from Tokyo.
The rare earths dispute triggered the latest trade flare-up. After China imposed controls, the US threatened 100% tariffs, effective November 1.
This, along with new US port fees and Chinese countermeasures, has ended a recent period of calm.
Trump also noted that both he and President Xi “have a lot to talk about,” signaling a comprehensive and necessary discussion is on the horizon.
